Odor removal after mold work
A musty smell can stay behind after mold has been removed. Deodorization is the step that deals with the smell itself, once the source has been handled.
What deodorization involves
Clean the surfaces that hold odor
Odor sits on and in materials. Cleaning them is the part that actually removes it.
Treat soft materials where appropriate
Some soft materials can be treated. Some should be replaced, and we will say which.
Dry the area properly
Air movers and filtration run while the area dries, because damp material keeps producing smell.
Find the water
If moisture is still getting in, the smell will return. We look for the source as part of the work.
Why a smell stays after the mold is gone
Odor settles into porous materials such as drywall, carpet, padding and timber. Taking away the visible growth does not always take away what has soaked into those materials. Deodorization targets what is left behind.

Questions about this stage
Can the smell come back?
It can, if moisture comes back. A returning smell is usually a sign that something is still damp. We look for the water source as part of the work, and we will tell you plainly if a roof, a plumbing leak or a drainage problem needs a different trade to put right.
Can we stay in the property while the work is done?
It depends on the size of the area and the materials involved. We will tell you before we start what access we need and roughly how long each room will be out of use. If we think you should be out of the property for part of the work, we will say so.
Do you use a fogger or an ozone machine?
Masking a smell is not the same as removing what causes it. We deal with the material and the moisture first; anything else is decided case by case and explained to you before it is used.
